Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) suggested on Tuesday that longtime Clinton family ally Sidney Blumenthal was a source for the dossier compiled by Christopher Steele. Fox News’ Martha MacCallum asked Gowdy if someone in the Obama State Department fed Steele information “from a foreign source.”
“When you hear who the source, or one of the sources of that information is, you’re gonna think, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve heard that name somewhere before, where could it possibly have been,’” he said.
“The domestic source,” he explained. “And I’m trying to think how Secretary Clinton defined him. I think she said he was an old friend who emailed her from time to time.”
“Sidney Blumenthal?” MacCallum asked.
“That’d be really warm. You’re warm. Yeah,” Gowdy replied.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) also said on Tuesday the name Sidney Blumenthal keeps coming up in their investigations.
“The names we keep hearing are Sidney Blumenthal and Cody Shearer — people who have been around the Clintons forever as being a part of this,” he said.
“But I also think it’s kind of interesting because what it looks like is, they paid Steele to put together the dossier, then they told him what to put in it,” Jordan added. “Talk about rigging the game and putting together a document that’s gonna serve your purposes as an opposition research document.”
